Facebook’s Data Gold Mine

You know how some nights you can rationalize all those extra clicks that take you down the internet rabbit hole?  You are sure you are discovering insights that will serve you well.  That’s usually my excuse.  But tonight I really did uncover a marketer’s dream — free data.

Just consider these gems.

  • There are only 700 Facebook users who live within 10 miles of Fort Lewis, WA.
  • Nobody “likes” AD/HD.  (That’s the fancy term that the professional community is using these days.)  However, 5,690 people on Facebook like ADHD, and 620 of them are college students.
  • And speaking of college students, there are 5.6 million college Facebook users in the United States.  70,000 of them in the Seattle area.

There are tons more insights to be unearthed if you just do a little digging.  Just click on the “Promote with an ad” link under your page avatar.  Here are two off the top of my head to get your creative juices flowing:

  • Discover what keywords your audience resonates with — and which ones they don’t.
  • See how large (or in the case of Fort Lewis, how small) your potential Facebook community can be.

All. For. FREE.

Get the picture?  Now that you know about it, how are you going to use this data goldmine?
