- It’s been a busy year for me on Twitter. Made a lot of new friends. Talked about a ton of topics, least of all the Presidential election. One of the people I follow suggests that social networks fill an emotional deficit. I would disagree. During the past year, I’ve invested in Twitter because it’s clear that it’s good for business. A few concrete examples:
- Tried for weeks to find a qualified candidate to act as marketing intern, found an indispensible one @trishaj in a matter of days with just two posts to Twitter.
- Became a virtual partner of a local PR firm, Concept Communications, to assist them with the social media side of their campaigns.Got great advice on different on-line products and services to use.
And when something didn’t work, like Net Nanny, got nearly-instantaneous customer service by tweeting about it.
- Met a lot of moms who have kids with ADHD and felt like I was able to make a small difference in their lives through my Edge Foundation blog posts and DM conversations. Twitter is one of the blog’s top referring web sites due to my tweets when I post a new blog. The one I wrote about curbing impulsive shopping during the holidays was retweeted by people with and without ADHD.
Laughter is the Best Medicine:
I’ve also found reading tweets serves me up at least one good laugh a day. Pretty darn important to the business health of a work-at-home-mom! I’ve flagged a many of my favorites over time. Here are a few that hold up out of context:

Provide a Little Help for My Friends:
My friends and collegues who have worked with me in person know I get juiced from being helpful. If there’s any emotional need it fills, I’m ready to own this one. After all, comments like this one aren’t heard very often from your children!
And of course, I have made many friends on Twitter. There are just too many to list here, but they know who they are!
Looking forward to making many more great contacts, sharing laughter, helping out, and discussing what’s hot in 2009!
What are some of your favorite Twitter moments from 2008? I’d love it if you’d share them here…
